DEPUTY mayor of Kingston Councillor Winston Ennis has urged residents of Kingston and St Andrew to extend their consciousness of and preparedness for earthquakes, and to abide by the constructing codes.

The decision comes as Jamaica marks Earthquake Consciousness Month in January.

Councillor Ennis, who was addressing the latest assembly of the Kingston and St Andrew Municipal Company (KSAMC) on the Jamaica Convention Centre, downtown Kingston, stated that the month was getting used to mirror on the 6.5-magnitude earthquake that destroyed the town of Kingston on January 14, 1907.
