PSL live scores 30 August

In a blockbuster PSL match this Sunday afternoon Bidvest Wits and Kaizer Chiefs meet with both still in the frame for Premiership glory.

Bidvest Wits vs Kaizer Chiefs: PSL title race

Bidvest Wits start Sunday seven points adrift of Kaizer Chiefs and knowing that anything short of victory will see them drop out of contention for the title.

The Cleverboys title hopes rest on a perfect finish, and a succession of slip-ups for Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns and they will likely be more concerned with achieving a third-place finish which would guarantee the franchise continental football next season.

Kaizer Chiefs still have their destiny in their own hands despite losing a crunch match to Sundowns in midweek.

Bidvest Wits have been far from perfect since the restart and played to a 1-1 draw with Bloem Celtic in their last PSL outing.

It is the second time these clubs will meet since the restart having played to 1-1 draw when they recommenced their campaigns earlier this month.

Kaizer Chiefs’ leading scorer Samir Nurkovic can resume his chase for the golden boot after missing the defeat to Sundowns through suspension.

Bidvest Wits’ top goal scorer Deon Hotto has just six goals to his name this term and is unlikely to figure in the golden boot contest which has eight strong contenders. Hotto scored within moments of coming on in Wits’ only win since the restart against Amazulu.

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Lorenzo Gordinho will come up against his ex-club for the second time.

Amakhosi coach Ernst Middendorp said that we could expect changes to his team given the nature of the schedule.

“In the bio bubble, the selection is not cut and paste because the players are taking the punch with the games coming thick and fast. We will have Samir Nurković returning from a one match ban. He will give us options insofar as our attack is concerned,” said Middendorp.

Lebogang Manyama will undergo a late fitness test. “Lebo is struggling a bit with tight muscles,” confirmed Middendorp. “We will wait for the doctor’s guidance before we take a decision. Otherwise, all is good, and we are looking forward to kick-off.”

Hunt has had to make extensive use of Wits MDC squad since the restart with former striker Gift Motupa having signed a pre-contract with Sundowns, on top of being aware that the club will become defunct at the end of the term.

The Wits coach also expects the PSL leaders to be a different animal at the FNB Stadium.

“Their biggest weapon of the season will be back in [Samir] Nurkovic so I’m expecting a different team from the one that played against Sundowns,” Hunt said.

Obviously there were some players that played out of position [against Sundowns] that won’t play there again. It will be totally different.

“People don’t obviously know the challenges we’ve faced, but we keep going. The players have given me everything. We will just continue going and give it everything we’ve got.

“I think every game we have finished well, obviously the mental fatigue is a problem. But we will go with what we’ve got.

“There will be a backlash from Chiefs. They are a proud club, the biggest club in South Africa. They are fighting to win the league, but we are also fighting for third. I think we still have a great chance, but we need to start winning games starting Sunday, which won’t be easy that’s for sure.”
