SANTO DOMINGO, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) — The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths rose to 86,737 and 1,481, respectively, in the Dominican Republic, the health authorities said on Monday.
According to the Ministry of Public Health, the latest figures represent an increase of 428 cases of novel coronavirus infection and 28 more deaths from the disease compared to the previous tally.
Currently, 6,835 patients are being treated in hospital isolation wards and 24,313 people are self-isolating at home. Of those hospitalized, 295 are in intensive care units.
The average age of those who have tested positive for the virus is 38, according to the ministry.
Some 54,108 former COVID-19 sufferers have recovered, added the ministry.
