Rich Homie Quan Admits He Didn’t Read His Contract Before Signing

Published

on

Rich Homie Quan says not reading his record contract before signing it was his biggest career mistake.

Let’s say you are starting a new phone service and they hand you the contract, do you really have time to read through all the fine print before signing? The 80/20 rule applies here as 80% of persons would simply sign without hesitation, because they trust that the phone company will not rip them off. You would think it is a different case in the music industry. However, the rule still applies, though the exact margins have not yet been documented. Rich Homie Quan recently did an interview with All Hip Hop, where he confessed that he did not read through his contract before signing it.

Sadly, this has been the reality for a lot of young rappers who then end up losing the rights to their works of art. Quan signed the deal with Think It’s A Game Records after the release of his major single, “Type of Way,” however, took the label to court in 2015. He sued for a sum of 2 million dollars in reference to unpaid royalties for tracks done while signed to the label.

While it is uncertain, but it feels as if this would have been avoided had he read the contract he was provided.

According to Quan, “To be honest, I didn’t even read my paperwork, I just signed in. I’m not saying I signed a bad contract. But at the end of the day, that’s why we had to do what we had to do because the contract wasn’t right.”

He continued, “We was going through litigation, so at the time, we tryna see what we was going to do with songs and I hadn’t been paid for all the songs I put out. In my mind, I haven’t been compensated for the good music I done did, why the hell I’m I going to drop some more when my money ain’t even right on these. So let me get my business right, so if I do drop some more sh*t I know, I’ll be paid right.”

Think It’s A Game Records counter sued the rapper for breach of contract, but both parties settled outside of court. Quan was among the list of fast-rising Atlanta stars such as Future and Young Thug, but legal issues hindered his progress.

The 30-year-old rapper is now signed to Motown Records.

Lizzo Set To Launch Thong Line With Tommy Hilfiger

Published

By

Lizzo is taking on the fashion industry.

Three-time Grammy award-winning artist Lizzo can do it all; rap, sing, twerk, and now she’s designing lingerie. For months the “Truth Hurts” hitmaker has teased a potential fashion line with Tommy Hilfiger, but fresh off her NAACP win on Sunday morning a very hungover Lizzo spilled the tea.

Met face to face with a crowd of reporters outside of the Sweet Chick waffle house in L.A. over the weekend, Lizzo had one simple word for reporters who questioned her about the potential upcoming collaboration — “thongs.”

Lizzo and Tommy Hilfiger will be teaming up to design a line of thong underwear. While the rapper didn’t share many details about the upcoming collaboration, Lizzo said Tommy reached out and a future collaboration is in the works.

Tommy Hilfiger who is 68-years-old has spoken publicly about how he would love to have the opportunity to work with the artist. Back in December 2019, Tommy said that Lizzo was at the top of his dream collaborators. “I would like to collab with people who have a great fashion sense,” he told TMZ. The designer also gushed over Lizzo’s spontaneity when she bore it all at a Los Angeles Lakers vs. Minnesota Timberwolves game on December 8, saying her outfit was “very cool.”

If you recall Lizzo wore a somewhat controversial black T-shirt with a giant cut-out on the backside, showing nothing but skin and her black thong.

Did Lizzo’s daring basketball outfit secure her fashion bag? We can’t be too sure, but we all know we can’t wait to see the new line.

Lil Uzi Vert’s $2 Million Bugatti Got Booted And Scratched

Lil Uzi Vert’s $2 million Bugatti Veyron was booted and scratched in the process.

If you played with cars as a child, then chance a gift from Matchbox or Hot Wheels would have been your prized possession. If so much as a scratch was to land on your ride, it would’ve been total devastation. Let’s up the stakes a bit and imagine being Lil Uzi Vert and your $2 million Bugatti got clamped, how would you feel? Not good, I assume. Earlier that day, Lil Uzi posted a couple of videos to his Instagram Stories of himself and his boy cruising along the highway in his tricked out multicolored Buggati hypercar.

While we are not sure where he was going at the time, it seems Uzi pulled up in New York throughout the coarse of the day. Sadly, for the “Hi Roller” rapper, it seems he might have overstayed his parking allotment and that in turn attracted the traffic police. A video currently circulating on social media shows two traffic polices writing a ticket and doing the unthinkable, of clamping his tires. The animated bystander who was filming and narrating the video mentioned that they were also considering towing the custom ride, but they then decided against it.

Lil Uzi Vert has not yet released a public statement about what happened, but we are sure he must be a bit upset. While the rapper is known for possessing over ten other luxury cars, including a Lamborghini Urus, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Audi R8, and a few Bentleys, it seems his Buggati holds a special place in his heart. He copped the then red and white ride from Floyd Mayweather Jr. for a cool $1.7 million last year around the time of his birthday. He even paid extra to ensure that the car arrived early for his birthday event in NYC.

Come to think of it, a parking ticket shouldn’t hit too bad for Uzi, who is worth millions. Let’s just hope that the traffic police did not scratch the new wrap job.

Birdman is very much still team Nicki.

Ahead of the new Spotify docuseries, “New Cash Order,” Birdman sat down with B. Dot of MTV News to cover several topics, including the greatness that is Nicki Minaj. This isn’t the first time Baby has sung Minaj’s praises, and now he is reiterating his feelings that she deserves more respect than she gets in the game.

“Honestly, I don’t think Nicki gets the credit she deserves,” he said. “I come in an era when females, it was hard for ‘em. She come broke the chain. Nicki broke the cycle for females. Nicki did more than any female artists, ever. And you have a lot of great artists before Nicki Minaj, but Nicki Minaj changed the game for females.”

Birdman went on to compliment Nicki’s hard work and drive, saying, “Nicki used to be in the studio with nine, ten n***as every night with us in Miami. Every single night, putting in the body of work to become who she became. So, I don’t think Nicki gets the credit she deserves, but you know, time tells all.”

Birdman has done his fair share of game changing as well, creating Cash Money Records which eventually sparked Lil Wayne’s Young Money, the label that signed Nicki Minaj. Despite a history of disputes amongst label members, the original artists in the Young Money/Cash Money crew continue to offer their respect for each other at every opportunity.

Birdman also spent time discussing his upcoming docuseries in the interview, explaining that he saw the opportunity as a chance to showcase new talent. Baby named Jacquees, Blueface, and Nino Calvin as artists featured in the series. He also promised that every Friday the series would serve up a new music video to show off the up-and-coming artists.

Birdman explained that he enjoys the privilege of shining a light on other musicians, saying, “…letting them have an open book to do whatever they wanna do and express they self, that’s when you really see what type of talent you’re workin’ with.”

Dame Dash can’t keep himself out of the courts or the headlines, and this time his children are involved.

Dame Dash has had many issues lately including lawsuits from creditors and for unpaid child support, as well as a sexual assault allegations forged against him from a former employee. Recently he announced that he was suing the production company behind “Growing Up Hip Hop” as well. Dash is a part of the show with his son, 28 year-old Damon ‘Boogie’ Dash II, and his daughter, Ava, also appears on the show. The music mogul’s relationship with his kids is strained on some levels, and has been reaching towards a boiling point in recent episodes.

In the latest episode of GUHH the three attend a therapy session to talk about the issues that exist between them. Boogie tells the therapist that one of his main concerns with his dad is that he doesn’t feel like he supports him when it comes to his addiction struggle. Boogie claimed that his father said to him, “Don’t come around until you fix yourself.”

Dash immediately denied saying that, however Ava backed up those claims and said that she had even heard him say that before. This is when he gets visibly upset and calls them spoiled and accused both of them of not being honest. He even brought up the situation between him and Rachel Roy, Ava’s mother and his ex-wife. He is currently suing her for saying that he is owed money from his share of her clothing brand’s earnings. He said that he was upset that Ava “chose a side” went to court in support of Rachel.

The therapy session continued to escalate when Boogie spoke up in support of his sister. Dame got even more confrontational which led Boogie to get up and nearly walk out. This really upset Dame and led him to call both of his children “stupid,” and said that they are both “clowns” for going against family. After that, the session was pretty much over as the therapist walked out behind him.

Let’s hope he and his children patch things up quickly. Since he has numerous legal issues right now, he’s going to need people in his corner.

Koffee Signs Deal With RCA After Historic Grammy Win

Published

on

By

Koffee inked a major deal with RCA Records days after her historic Grammy win.

The Grammy kid Koffee is looking to spread her musical wings across North America in a more elaborate way this year. To do so, she is initiating a new gear with her record company to bring major North American players, RCA into the mix. Koffee has been signed to Columbia records since 2018, and the team has seen tremendous growth from that deal, especially in the UK market.

During an interview with the Observer, Ferdy Unger-Hamilton, president of Columbia UK, mentioned the dynamics of the current deal, “Koffee is signed to Columbia UK for the world, but the US licensee is RCA Records.” He also mentioned that the plans and goals to market Koffee will not differ from what is being done in the UK and other parts of Europe, “The direction will not change. We will simply try to replicate in the US what we have done in the UK.”

Both RCA and Columbia records fall under the umbrella of Sony Corporation of America, which also houses subsidiaries Arista Records and Epic Records. RCA should allow for a massive push in the US market and with her recent Grammy win and numerous appearances such as MTV’s Wild ‘N Out, Koffee could become a household name in America.

The “Toast” singer copped the Grammy Award for her debut EP Rapture, which was released by Columbia Records UK back in March 2019. The record also did pretty well in the US, racking up over 4,800 copies according to Nielsen Music scale.

“Toast,” the lead single from the project ended up almost everywhere, including the playlist of Barrack Obama. It reached a cool number 70 on the UK Pop charts and 43 on the US Billboard Magazine’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart.

“W” also hit the mark in the UK last year December, as the collaboration with US-based rapper Gunna reached number 82 on the Pop charts. It’s evident that the young Jamaican queen has been putting in the work since the start of the year, collaborating with British rapper J Hus on a track titled “Repeat.” There have also been videos of herself and African Giant Burna Boy working on their collaboration. Koffee’s growth is nothing short of exciting, and her fans could be in for even more goodies with the recent announcement from Ferdy Unger-Hamilton.

The label executive confirmed that Koffee’s debut studio album will be released sometime this year.
