A$AP Rocky To Perform At First Concert Since Release From Jail In Sweden

Published

on

A$AP Rocky is ready to get back to regular programming with several upcoming concerts Stateside.

Now that A$AP Rocky has finally touched back on American soil it’s business as usual as the rapper can soon resume his regular work schedule following his unwelcome hiatus. Flacko is set to perform at his first major concert since his release from jail in Sweden. Next weekend will be his first scheduled performance in the US since his release. The “Wild For The Night” rapper will be performing at the Honda Centre in Anaheim, California on August 10th.

Fans who already have seats for future shows are probably waiting desperately for their date to come, considering the close call their tickets had to become useless. For those who can’t contain their anxiety much longer, you can still get tickets for next weekend’s Anaheim show online.

A judge presiding over the Stockholm district court in A$AP Rocky’s trial on Friday ordered the rapper to be freed from his cell with immediate effect and granted him permission to go back to the USA as well.

Now that Pretty Flacko, who says he is ‘humbled’ by the tragic experience is back in the States, he only has this one show next weekend before his verdict is announced in a court in Sweden on August 14th. It’s unlikely that A$AP will be convicted and have to serve time in prison in the Nordic country. Prosecutors have been demanding that the Harlem rapper serves at least six months behind bars.

During his detainment overseas, A$AP had been forced to cancel several shows. We later learned that Sweden might be liable to compensate the rapper for his losses if he’s proven not guilty, but he has since rejected any potential legal earnings saying he only wishes to put the whole incident and lawsuit behind him.

I sincerely hope that this unfortunate chapter of A$AP Rocky‘s book has come to a certain close, so his other shows can continue without interruption, and no more fans will have to be disappointed. We can’t wait for his performance in Anaheim next Saturday.

The Weeknd Speak On His On And Off Relationship With Drugs

Published

on

By

The Weeknd has had a few on-off relationships in his life. One is with Bella Hadid, the other with drugs.

The “After Hours” singer has never shied away from his dark history with narcotics. He previously revealed to The Guardian in 2016, “Drugs were a crutch for me. There were songs on my first record that were seven minutes long, rambling – whatever thoughts I was having when I was under the influence at the time. I’ll be completely honest with you. The past couple of albums, I do get back to that. Even on this new album. You have writer’s block. And sometimes you’re like, I can’t do this sober.”

The last few years have seen The Weeknd tread the straight and narrow. He removed the term “xo” from his social media handles, which some alleged was a reference to “ecstasy” and “oxycodone” and even branched into acting by starring in the Safdie Brothers’ film, “Uncut Gems.” Having just turned 30, the Grammy Award winner is now about to drop his fourth studio album, “After Hours.” With the singles, “Heartless” and “Blinding Light” already receiving airplay in anticipation of the March 20th release, The Weeknd was asked if drugs still play a role in his creative process.

“I have an off-and-on relationship with it,” he told CR MEN. “It doesn’t consume my life but occasionally helps me open up my mind, especially when I’m creating, but when I perform I’m completely sober and try not to even drink. I’ve learned to balance thanks to touring.”

In addition to the new album, the Canadian is also scheduled to embark on a 57 show tour. The After Hours Tour will begin in June and see the singer travel through North America and Europe until mid-November. Sabrina Claudio, Don Toliver, and 88Glam will join him on tour.

Pop Smoke Was On Edge About Gang Members Days Before Murder

Published

By

Pop Smoke was reportedly on edge about gang members just days before his death.

The world reacted with shock last week when news of the young rapper’s passing broke. Bashar Jackson, better known as Pop Smoke, was killed in a home invasion early on Wednesday morning when four individuals entered his Hollywood Hills home. Shots were fired in what police believe was an attempted robbery, and the “Welcome to the Party” rapper was transported to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he died as a result of the human shot wound to his chest.

It seems, now, that Pop Smoke had a feeling that something was coming… The 20-year-old was scheduled to perform in Brooklyn the weekend before his death but canceled the concert at the last minute.

“Unfortunately NYPD wouldn’t let me perform,” he wrote on Instagram, but TMZ is now claiming that is not true. The media outlet says that the cops had no involvement in the decision, and that Pop made the call because he feared there were gang members in the audience. The concern becomes even more real when you consider that the artist’s murder appears to have been a hit.

In the weeks leading up to Pop Smoke’s death, he had been arrested for allegedly stealing a Rolls-Royce and taking it across state lines. The luxury car had been lent to the rapper by the owner whom he met at a recording studio. The pair reportedly agreed that Pop could use the car for his music video, and in return, the owner would be treated like a VIP at one of Pop’s performances.

Months went by, and the artist went AWOL, leading to the Rolls owner reporting the vehicle missing when it wasn’t returned to his possession. When police caught up with Pop, they arrested and charged him, with him facing a possibility of a decade behind bars. He was ultimately released on bail of $250,000 after putting down his mom’s Brooklyn home as collateral.

Yo Gotti Day Declared For February 22nd In St Louis

Published

By

Rapper Yo Gotti is showing us what it means to turn your life around and give back to your community. The Memphis rapper has once again received a priceless accolade, the keys to a city, and having another day named after him.

2017 was a major year for Yo Gotti, and he celebrated it in fine style like he always does by keeping his birthnight bash. The fans in attendance were treated to a pleasant and uplifting surprise when the rapper was approached on stage by Shelby County Commissioner Eddie Jones, who blessed him with the keys to the city and declared June 29th as “Yo Gotti Day.”

Now 3 years later, Gotti is still doing good in his neighborhoods, and now has another set of keys to walk around with, and another special to give thanks for. The city of St. Louis in Missouri recently declared February 22nd as “Yo Gotti Day,” and it seems that the rapper couldn’t be more appreciative.

“A kid from Ridgecrest Apt. Dat they only associate with Trap Music & life. I just wanted to get sum $ and get My Ppl out da hood. Thru talent and Hustle We Did Dat & More! Now we accomplish things that wasn’t even a part of the plan#Bless,” penned Gotti.

“S/o to the Mayor of St. Louis, East St. Louis & City of Dellwood and Derrick Green [100%],” he continued as he showed some love.

Yo Gotti, whose real name is Mario Giden Mims, grew up in the gang-dominated Ridgecrest Apartments in Frayser. While his career grew in leaps and bounds in the early 2000s, he has actually been a staple in the rap game since 1996, when he went by the stage name Lil Yo. “Since he became successful, the Trezevant High School graduate has been using his wealth to start businesses to employ Memphians, and he’s given back to the city in many ways,” according to The Commercial Appeal. Along with his flipping houses and restaurants, the “Act Right” rapper has also teamed up with EA Sport’s subsidiary, Faze Clan.

Gotti’s work doesn’t only stop at providing low-income housing or jobs, and during a January 2020 interview with The Business Insider, Gotti shared how he partnered with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation to “help more than a dozen Mississippi prisoners sue the state prison system over its conditions.”

Safe to say that he has been racking up some steady cool points as he portrays that it is what you do with the fruits of your labor that define your character.

Beyonce Honors Kobe Bryant At “Celebration Of Life” Memorial At Staples Center

Beyonce gave a rousing tribute performance in honor of Kobe Bryant and Gianna Bryant at their memorial at the Staples Center.

It’s been nearly a month since the tragic death of Kobe and Gianna Bryant, but not until today were mourners able to gather at an event grand enough to honor the superstar athlete and his talented teenage daughter. The “Celebration of Life” was held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Monday, opening with an emotional tribute performance by Beyoncé. Wearing all gold in honor of the Lakers legend, Bey opened the performance with her song “XO.”

She explained her music choice after singing the first couple lines, saying, “I’m here because I love Kobe, and this was one of his favorite songs. So, I want to start that over, but I want us to do it together, and I want you to sing it so loud they can hear your love.”

The touching rendition of “XO” was backed up by a gospel choir and orchestra dressed in all white. Beyoncé concluded her performance with a powerful performance of her hit, “Halo”, which felt exactly right for the moment with the lyrics, “Standing in the light of your halo/I got my angel now.” Beyoncé sent a kiss up to the heavens before touchingly mouthing “I love you” to Kobe’s wife, Vanessa Bryant, who was applauding the performance from her seat in the crowd.

The event was attended by more than 20,000 people, including friends, family, former teammates, and fans. There were countless famous faces in the audience to celebrate Kobe and Gianna’s lives, including Jennifer Lopez, Magic Johnson, and Michael Jordan. The helicopter crash, which took the lives of the NBA star and his daughter, also killed seven other people, including the pilot. The investigation into the cause of the crash is still pending, but Vanessa Bryant has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the company that operated the helicopter, claiming that negligence may have been involved.

Rihanna Preach Unity While Accepting Her NAACP Image Award

Published

on

By

Rihanna gave a moving speech when she collected her President’s Award at this year’s NAACP Image Awards.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Image Awards ceremony was this weekend, and among the honorary recipients was music and fashion mogul Rihanna. The singer was clad in an eye-catching purple Givenchy gown and a slicked-back ponytail as she graced the stage with her commanding presence to make a statement as she accepted her award.

“I’m going to try to keep this simple because tonight is not really about me because the purpose is bigger than me, right?” Rihanna began. “It’s not bigger than us together, but it’s bigger than me because my part is a very small part of the work that’s being done in this world and the work that has yet to be done.”

Rihanna has long been an activist who raises awareness for various social and political issues that affect us. In addition, the humanitarian has also established nonprofit organizations and support a multitude of charities. Rihanna, who was born Robyn Rihanna Fenty, is also an ambassador for her own country – a role that promotes education, investments, and tourism. She earned the NAACP President’s Award for her distinguished public service and special achievement.

During her time on stage, she shed some light on the fact that what she has achieved alone speaks volumes about what we can all achieve as a unit. “I’m lucky I was able to start the Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012. And if there’s any thing that I’ve learned is that we can only fix this world together. We can’t do it divided. I cannot emphasize that enough. We can’t let the de-sensitivity seep in. The, ‘If it’s your problem, then it’s not mine; It’s a woman’s problem; It’s a black people problem; It’s a poor people problem.’”

Before thanking the NACCP organization, RiRi reminded her colleagues that the issues we face can only be tackled with diversity. “I mean, how many of us in this room have colleagues and partners and friends from other races, sexes, religions? Show of hands. Well, they want to break bread with you, right? They like you? Well, then this is their problem, too. So when we’re marching and protesting and posting about the Michael Brown Juniors and Tattiana Jeffersons of the world, tell your friends to pull up,” Rihanna said, inciting applause from the audience.

She ended with a quick thanks and reiterated her main point concisely. “Thank you to the NAACP for all of your efforts to ensure equality for our communities,” she continued. “Thank you for celebrating our strength and tenacity. We’ve been denied opportunities since the beginning of time. Still, we prevail. so I’m honored. Imagine what we can do together. Thank you for this honor.”

Rihanna now joins the elite body of celebrities who have been honored with this prestigious award, including Lauryn Hill, JAY-Z, and Muhammad Ali.
