If you look for the St Mary Municipal Corporation in the telephone directory you will see its address listed as 2 Hodgson Street, Port Maria. That has been so for decades. But a recent check by the corporation has shown that this is the wrong address.

“We have always thought that we were at 2 Hodgson Street, but in doing the research we found that our correct address is 13 Hodgson Street. For all these years we have been using the wrong address, but in doing this project now we have corrected it,” Mayor of Port Maria, Councillor Richard Creary told the Jamaica Observer.

Creary said the correction of the address came as part of a street numbering project now taking place in Port Maria and which will be extended to other major towns and housing developments in the parish.

“We believe that this is very important, because a lot of times a visitor to Port Maria, for example, will be looking for 10 Hodgson Street and would have no idea where that is. The visitor would have to be stopping and asking persons. Also, when emergency services are trying to find a location they have to be asking questions. We will now be putting these numbers of all business places in Port Maria and then we roll it out across the parish,” added Creary.

He said it will cost the St Mary Municipal Corporation approximately $500,000 to number the buildings in Port Maria.
