1. Pearnel Charles Jr appointed minister without portfolio

Prime Minister Andrew Holness today announced the appointment of Senator Pearnel Charles Jr as Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation.

2. Uchence Wilson trial: Cop collected money to free members who were arrested, says ex-gangster

Another ex-member of the Uchence Wilson Gang this morning testified that the police corporal, who is said to be a part of the gang, would collect money to free members when they were arrested and would also inform the alleged leader when the police were seeking to arrest him.

3. Privy Council rules in favour of Jamaicans for Justice

The London-based Privy Council today upheld an appeal by the human rights group, Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ), challenging the decision of the Police Service Commission (PSC) to promote a former police officer despite allegations of his involvement in extra-judicial killings.

4. PNP stalwart Charles Alexander Moore is dead

The People’s National Party is mourning the death of party stalwart, Dr Charles Alexander Moore, who had a “long history of service to the party and the country he loved from his childhood days to his pioneering work in the public transport sector”.

5. Weekend crashes push road fatalities to 100

Three people died in motor vehicle crashes over the weekend, pushing road fatalities to 100 since the start of the year.

6. Work on Western Children’s Hospital to begin by May

Health Minister, Dr Christopher Tufton, says construction of the 220-bed Western Children Adolescent Hospital in Montego Bay, St James, will commence by May 2019.

7. GraceKennedy expresses concern about alleged assault of Calabar teacher

Don Wehby, CEO of the GraceKennedy Group, which is the main sponsor of the Boys and Girls Championships, has expressed concerns about allegations that members of the Calabar High School track team assaulted a teacher recently. 

8. Cleared by Mueller, Trump faces slew of other probes

The Mueller investigation is over, but President Donald Trump now faces a slew of other investigations by federal prosecutors in New York and Democrats in Congress that could create more deep troubles for his administration.

9. Report cops who solicit money to keep events going, urges high command

The police high command is reminding that it is unlawful for police officers to solicit money or any form of payment from event promoters for the extension of cut-off times for events, and is urging the public to report such matters to the Inspectorate of Constabulary.

10. Man arrested after cop shot in Spanish Town

A man is currently in police custody following a shooting attack on a police corporal during an operation in Willowdene, Spanish Town yesterday.
