PARLIAMENTARIANS have a busy schedule this week, with the sitting of three select committees, two joint select committees, and the House of Representatives.

In a new development, Minister of Finance and the Public Service Dr Nigel Clarke tabled a third Estimates of Expenditure for fiscal year 2018/19, which ends on March 31. However, no increase in either expenditure or revenues was included in these estimates, which are expected to tidy up the 2018/19 budget report.

The Public Administration and Appropriations Committee, which has to review the new estimates, will meet this morning at 10:00 am to do so. The Ethics Committee, which approves certain activities of members including the grant of government contracts, will meet in the afternoon a 1:00 pm.

Another select committee, the Human Resource and Social Development Committee, will meet on Wednesday at 2:00 pm to continue its deliberations on the motion from Government MP Juliet Cuthbert Flynn to allow women easier access to abortions.

The Joint Select Committee on the Criminal Justice (Suppression of Criminal Organisations) Act, 2014, commonly known as the “anti-gang legislation”, which is chaired by Minister of National Security Dr Horace Chang, will meet on Wednesday at 10:00 am; and the Joint Select Committee on the Occupational Safety and Health Bill, chaired by Minister of Labour and Social Security Shahine Robinson, will resume on Thursday at 10:00 am.

It is not yet known whether there will be a meeting of the Senate on Friday.
