Pilot Killed in Fiery Crash in Guyana

Dead is Randy Liverpool, the lone occupant of the Cessna 206 aircraft
that belonged to Domestic Airways Inc .

The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority said in a brief statement that the plane went down as the pilot, attached to Domestic Airways, was approaching the Eteringbang airstrip in Region 7 around 5:45 p.m.

“Persons rushed to the scene and the pilot was found engulfed in flames in the wrecked aircraft. The body which is burnt beyond recognition…,” the Guyana Police Force said.

The accident was the second plane crash
in the country this week, although the first one, involving a single-engine
Cessna, did not result in any fatalities.

In the incident around 8 p.m. on
Monday, pilot Lionel Gomez and Police Constable Mark Grimmond were hurt when a
Guyana Adventist Medical Aviation Services medevac plane crash landed on the
West Bank Demerara, while transporting the body of an American missionary who
died when he fell off a mountain in Guyana’s interior.

Gomez reportedly suffered a broken jaw while Grimmond broke a leg.
