A British woman was last Thursday arrested and charged by narcotics agents in connection with the seizure of eight pounds of cocaine at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James.

She has been identified as Marjolyn Gayle, 57, a nurse’s aide of Nottingham, England.

The constabulary reported yesterday that about 6:00 pm Gayle checked in to board a flight destined to London when her luggage was searched by narcotics officers. Six packages, police said, were detected with white substance resembling cocaine weighing approximately eight pounds. The packages were subsequently seized and she was arrested.

Following an interview, in the presence of her attorney-at-law, Gayle was charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, and attempting to export cocaine.

The drug has an estimated street value of $4 million.

She is to appear before the St James Parish Court tomorrow.
