THE Kingston and St Andrew Health Services has been staging dengue sensitisation sessions as a part of the continued response to the dengue outbreak.

The health service said 106 community health aides and 14 temporary vector control workers carried out dengue sensitisation sessions on January 28 and 29 in the following areas:

• Stony Hill Shopping Centre and its environs;

• Golden Spring Shopping Centre and its environs;

• Port Royal;

• Riverton Meadows;

• Callaloo Mews;

• Olympic Gardens;

• Greenwich Town;

• Seaview Gardens; and the

• New Kingston business district.

Scores of residents from these communities, including members of churches, schools and businesses were educated about the signs, symptoms and treatment of dengue fever. Additionally, the public health officials distributed flyers and pamphlets with information on preventing dengue fever and eliminating mosquito-breeding sites. The residents were encouraged to play an active role in preventing, reducing and destroying mosquito-breeding sites, which is critical in mitigating the spread of the virus.

Representatives from the Kingston and St Andrew Health Service said it will continue to work within these communities. Persons can contact the health centres or health department in their area for the fogging schedule to find out when the team will visit their area.
