1. Dismissals, staff transfers at Dunn’s River after revelations of fraud

The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) says some staff at the Dunn’s River Falls and Park have been dismissed while others have transferred as part of remedial action following an audit which revealed instances of fraud among other issues at the popular attraction.

2. Thieves posing as vendors in downtown Kingston

Robbers in downtown Kingston have intensified their efforts to rob shoppers, a police source has informed.

3. Jamaica preparing for post-IMF era

The Ministry of Finance and the Public Service is seeking to strengthen its macro-fiscal capacity and that of its agencies responsible for economic policymaking to continue the country’s economic growth agenda after arrangements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) end.

4. Monymusk Sugar Factory to be closed for 2018/19 season

The Government has been unable to identify a suitable investor to repair and operate the Clarendon-based Monymusk Sugar Factory, which is owned by Pan Caribbean Ltd, for the 2018/2019 crop season and as such, the facility will be temporarily closed.

5. St Mary residents thwart robbery, hand over firearm to police

Residents in Chapel Spring, St Mary yesterday thwarted a robbery and handed over a homemade firearm to the police after the thief escaped their grasp.

6. Caribbean legislators welcome passage of DREAM Act

Caribbean legislators have welcomed the New York Legislature’s passage of a bill that for the first time provides undocumented Caribbean and other immigrant students’ access to financial aid and scholarships for higher education in the state.

7. Manchester records fourth murder

Manchester recorded its fourth murder since the start of the year last night in Hanbury just on the outskirts of the parish capital where one man was shot dead.

8. Cop shot at, robbed outside Greater Portmore home

A policeman man was fired on by gunmen at his home in Greater Portmore, St Catherine this morning.

9. Reputed Greyground gang leader charged

The reputed leader of the Greyground gang, Rohan “Boomhead” Smiley, has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

10. Stafanie Taylor skips Pakistan tour over security concerns

West Indies women’s captain Stafanie Taylor will miss her team’s three-match T20 international series in Pakistan which starts later this month over security concerns, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced on Thursday.
