BETHESDA Basic School in Port Antonio, Portland, last Wednesday celebrated its 62nd anniversary in a soft ceremony that included the cutting of a cake and various performances.

School Principal Mercedes Bunsie told the Jamaica Observer North & East at the event that the school was founded in 1957 by the late Linette Williams and boasts some outstanding past students, including former Portland East Member of Parliament Dr Donald Rhodd and Managing Director of the Jamaica Stock Exchange Marlene Street-Forrest.

“The school is one of the demonstration schools for early childhood and host a centre on the compound. We are presently up for certification and continue to providestudents with a rounded education.

“We are active in the performing arts and sports, as we seek to expose them to become total individuals at the same time getting good education” she pointed out.
