Lady Gaga Fans Implore Singer to Condemn R. Kelly in Wake of Documentary

Published

on

Some fans of Lady Gaga are taking the Golden Globe winner to task on social media, imploring her to condemn R. Kelly, the embattled musician she collaborated with in 2013.

Kelly had come under renewed scrutiny following the six-part Lifetime documentary “Surviving R. Kelly,” which included testimony from women who accuse Kelly of mental, physical and sexual abuse, as well as interviews with associates and relatives of the singer.

Gaga’s single “Do What U Want” featured vocals by Kelly and raised eyebrows by some at the time as he was only a few years removed from being acquitted on child pornography charges.

While Kelly has collaborated with a host of musicians in the years since, Lady Gaga’s fan base in particular seem to be holding her to task for not speaking out against the singer.

While Gaga reportedly defended her collaboration with Kelly at the time, she has not commented publicly since the documentary aired. Gaga is widely expected to be nominated for an Oscar for her role in “A Star is Born” when the Academy Award nominations are announced later this month.

Attorneys for delivery driver Tiffany Wells say that tweet led to a public backlash and social media threats from fans of Lizzo.

The attorney for Wells say the driver followed Postmates’ delivery protocol and brought the food to the Boston hotel where Lizzo was staying, but that the artist did not provide a room number.

On Sept. 17, Lizzo took to Twitter to apologize for the initial tweet.

“I apologize for putting that girl on blast,” she said. “I understand I have a large following and that there were so many variables that could’ve put her in danger. Imma really be more responsible with my use of social media and check my petty and my pride at the door.”

CBS aired back-to-back episodes of “Survivor: Island of the Idols” on Wednesday night, titled “We made it to the merge,” in which the two disparate tribes become one for the first time.

As the tribes start fraternizing, Kellee Kim and Missy Byrd talk for the first time on screen, and an issue comes up about alleged inappropriate touching by contestant Dan Spilo, which Kim had addressed with him in the first episode of the season.

Byrd tells Kim that she too has been uncomfortable around Spilo, a 48-year-old Hollywood talent manager, while competing in Fiji, and that three other women have also.
