HOOLEBURY Primary School in Scarlett Hall, St Ann, recently received a much-needed facelift through the Bahia Principe Jamaica Resort Corporate Social Responsibility programme.

The resort, in a news release sent to the Jamaica Observer North & East, said that the programme aims to support the advancement of primary education within the parish of St Ann.

The school, with a student population of 302, received a comprehensive painting of its exterior walls along with classrooms, staff room, and principal’s office.

Ceiling fans were also installed in the classrooms along as significant electrical and plumbing works were done.

The school grounds were also landscaped with extensive tree planting which was done by the members of the Bahia team with support from the Forestry Department. The principal, guidance counsellor and teachers joined in the efforts on the day.

In his expression of gratitude, Principal of the Hoolebury Primary School, Leon Lamont said that the facelift was unexpected.

“The chairman, students and teachers will be pleasantly surprised about the complete makeover,” said Lamont.

In response, the newly appointed General Manager of Bahia Principe Jamaica Resort, Gabriel Salom said: “The resort is deliberate with its focus on primary education as a strategy to support the country’s mission to ensure the highest quality of education in an environment that is conducive for student growth.”

Meanwhile, the school with its recently installed Guidance Counsellor Sherifah Maxwell has embarked on programmes that should empower, motivate and inspire its student population with a significant focus on male students.

This programme should see male members of staff from Bahia Principe Jamaica Resort engaging in an ongoing mentoring programme at the school.

“Bahia Principe Jamaica Resort further pledges its commitment for ongoing support of the Hoolebury Primary School as well as other outreach and partnership support for social, community and youth empowerment activities in and around the communities of the Resort, which is located in Salt Coopers, Runaway Bay, St Ann,” the release said.
