Estelee Merinda Myrie joined the prestigious club of Jamaican centenarians on December 23, 2018, and to mark the milestone her six children, relatives and friends honoured her with three days of celebration in her home community of Success in Hanover.

The events included a picnic on her lawn, an the West Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists (SDA) auditorium, and, of course, the entire family going with her to church at Porter’s Mountain SDA.

Myrie, who reads without glasses, is still in good health and was obviously happy to be spending quality time with her children, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, three great, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Myrie was born in Success on December 23, 1918. In addition to raising her children, she has, over the years, earned a reputation for mothering several young men from her district who have become prominent tradesmen and outstanding citizens.

As a Christian leader, she has been an active member of Porter’s Mountain SDA church for over 75 years, holding various positions including ordained first elder, treasurer, Sabbath School teacher, choir director, deaconess and other supporting positions.

She has also opened her home to host pastors, Bible workers, literature evangelists, and pastoral interns.

Myrie was also active in her community, serving as midwife, nurse, marriage counsellor, teacher, basic school board member, and social worker, to name a few.
