‘Hobbs & Shaw’ Premiere Focused on Family and Fun

After 8 films and more than $15 billion dollars earned worldwide, The “Fast and Furious” franchise has its first stand alone film in “Hobbs & Shaw.” We spoke with the cast at the premiere in Hollywood, who tell us the film focuses on family, action and fun.

“We doubled down on the comedy for this one,” star Jason Statham said. He plays Deckard Shaw, a former British military elite operative. He begrudgingly partners with Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) a loyal agent of America’s Diplomatic Security Service (DSS). The two have history, very entertaining history, which we saw in “The Fate of the Furious.” Audiences and critics loved their chemistry so much in that film that it sparked the idea to put them together in their own stand alone piece.

Now Hobbs and Shaw have to work together along with Shaw’s sister Hattie (Vanessa Kirby) to stop cyber genetically enhanced bad guy Brixton Lorr played by Idris Elba. He tells us this character was immensely fun to play.

“He was a complex character to play,” Elba said. “He’s part man, part machine and he’s got a bit of an ego.”

Learn the History of the Fry for National French Fry Day

Published

on

By

National French Fry day is Saturday, July 13th.

Did you know that the average American eats 30 pounds of fries in a year?

Did you know Thomas Jefferson first introduced the idea of french fries to the USA?

He was in the White House one day and he ordered potatoes in the french fry style and that’s how french fries ended up in America.

Most people don’t know that french fries aren’t actually French. They’re Belgian.

Rev Ciancio, food expert @funwithfries educated us on the history of everyone’s favorite side.

“A valley called the Muse Valley in Belgium, they eat a lot of fish and they fry their fish, Ciancio said. “And in winter there were less fish in the water because it was frozen or it was cold, they needed another source of food for frying things so they started frying potatoes.”

“In Belgium they primarily speak French as a language so soldiers that were from America during World War I working in Belgium, seeing people speaking French and frying potatoes, just started calling them french fries. That’s how it happened,” Ciancio said.

To make a good french fry, the quality of the potato is essential.

Potatoes from the western part of the Unites States make a great fry.

Then it’s about how that potato got handled until it got fried, how it was cut, the type of cut, and how it was cooked.

“They gotta be hot, they gotta be crispy, they gotta be fresh,” Ciancio said.

The 52-year-old was arrested Homeland Security Investigation agents and NYPD detectives Thursday night on sex trafficking charges, officials tell News 4, and it is expected he will be brought to New York.

Attempts to contact a spokesperson and legal team for R. Kelly were not immediately successful. Drea Kelly, the singer’s ex-wife, had no comment following the arrest, her rep said.

The R&B star, whose real name is Robert Kelly, has been the subject of different sexual abuse allegations for nearly two decades, with some of the alleged acts dating back to 1998.

Back in February, Kelly was charged with aggravated sexual abuse involving four women, three of whom were minors when the alleged abuse occurred. He pleaded not guilty and was released from Chicago’s Cook County Jail after posting bail.

A jury in 2008 acquitted Kelly of child pornography charges stemming from a video showing him having sex with a girl as young as 13, prosecutors claimed at the time. Kelly faced 15 years in prison for that charge, but the young woman in that claim denied it was her and did not testify.
