Some fans of Lady Gaga are taking the Golden Globe winner to task on social media, imploring her to condemn R. Kelly, the embattled musician she collaborated with in 2013.
Kelly had come under renewed scrutiny following the six-part Lifetime documentary “Surviving R. Kelly,” which included testimony from women who accuse Kelly of mental, physical and sexual abuse, as well as interviews with associates and relatives of the singer.
Gaga’s single “Do What U Want” featured vocals by Kelly and raised eyebrows by some at the time as he was only a few years removed from being acquitted on child pornography charges.
While Kelly has collaborated with a host of musicians in the years since, Lady Gaga’s fan base in particular seem to be holding her to task for not speaking out against the singer.
@ladygaga you need to speak out about your collaboration with R Kelly. Nothing else you do right now matters

@ladygaga Pretty disgusted at your past relationship with R. Kelly and your continued silence about him. I thought you were someone victims could look to for support and allyship but I guess that’s only when it’s convenient for you #SurvivingRKelly

Love you and so happy for your success BUT you need to issue a statement re: R Kelly. For all the young girls out there who idolize musicians. Do the right thing.

How you not gonna speak on surviving R Kelly, then claim to be a feminist?

While Gaga reportedly defended her collaboration with Kelly at the time, she has not commented publicly since the documentary aired. Gaga is widely expected to be nominated for an Oscar for her role in “A Star is Born” when the Academy Award nominations are announced later this month.
